My work is a narrative journey through my family tree using jewellery and found objects to tell everyday stories of some of the individuals I have discovered.
The research has allowed me a glimpse into the lives of my ancestors and from this I have created a collection of thought provoking objects aimed to commemorate my past.
The jewellery contains a mixture of precious and non-precious metals, enamel and photographs, which at first glance could be antiques but on closer inspection reveal themselves to be one off contemporary pieces. The framed collections are snap shots in time containing prints, cast metal, ceramic pieces and enamelled found objects combined with carefully chosen pieces that allow the viewer to reminisce and maybe provoke a memory of their own.

‘The P Project’ was drawn from the symbolism associated with lanterns in the cultures of the East and West. In common with Oriental lanterns, the inner section consists primarily of paper and wood.

The shape refers to industrial and marine lamps of the pre-war British Royal Navy and late 19th century factory lamp fittings. The etymology of ‘lantern’ shows the word to be derived from the concept of protecting the fragile light within. This project also explores notions of artistic freedom and how one can protect it.

Every story has an ending. But in life, every ending is a new beginning. I am inspired by the conception of samsara” in Buddhist thought, which is to be reborn and die again. Existence is only a continuous process of change. My works focus on the exploration between integration and differentiation. The pots are complete in the beginning. After being cut into little pieces, they can be other forms. Maybe people can’t imagine the original piece is a pot, just like I give the cutting pieces new beginnings.

Earthy Delights - The knowing of objects  through touch, the sensual pleasure of making, gender and notions of value are preoccupations within my practice.

As adults, the skills with which we negotiate our environment are refined to the point of unconscious action; our embodied experiences - experienced as plethora of stimuli that reinforce or update our model of the world.

What happens when rational expectations are confounded by the implausible, the unfamiliar or by changes in convention?

In these works, my aim is to set up an inter-play between the visual and the haptic, and to provoke self-conscious engagement through shifts in cognition.  Ambiguous, paradoxical, emotive; these pieces are an exploration of the potentials of inter-modal experience, mediating interaction through materiality, cultural association and sensory cues.

My work is inspired from Indian Marriage. The form is inspired from the folds of turbans, dress of bride and the knot between the bride and groom. Indian marriage is full of crafts so I took two crafts Henna (mehandi) and Turbans. The Henna pattern on the Dining table resembles the Marriage celebration. The colors that I have used are the most important colors in traditional marriage. The weaving patterns in chairs are inspired by the patterns in the turbans. My work is the combination of art and design. This work force viewer to rethink about traditional crafts and its possibility in the contemporary world.

I’m not good at talking about my work just as I am not good at talking about  myself. I wish I could be an invisible one, transparent like the air. And the only evidence of my existence is my work here in your presence. My work talks instead of me. But there are no certain words. What they are saying is what you are hearing.
